Wild Wedding Weekend

I’m prepared to say that this past weekend was absolutely insane.  It started on Thursday, with the loss of the King of Pop and continued well through our wedding on Saturday and frankly, into Sunday.  To frame the situation, I’d like to tell you about what happens when Mayra decides that she really likes you: she makes the impossible, possible. When our bride for this past Saturday came in to meet with Mayra, she arrived with her sister who was going to pay for 10 hours of consulting and day-of coordination, because her sister had booked a venue (the Morris Jumel Mansion) and was on a very tight budget and had no idea how to make this wedding happen on that budget.

Despite the challenging budget, Mayra agreed to take it on in part because these ladies were two of the nicest girls we’d ever met, and in part because they agreed to take all of her suggestions without question- I’ve said it before, she’s can be a bully, but a lovely bully.  The food was being provided by a restaurant, Mayra hired Ultra events on the brides behalf to staff the event, family and friends were providing the cake and Mayra designed a centerpiece for the bride and then sent her to Fisher and Page to place wholesale order for flowers (apparently, I was going to be the florist for this wedding). The bride’s mother was a seamstress and was going to make runners.  My word, I’m exhausted thinking about this… I won’t get into the fact that the evening before was our dear friends birthday and me and my crazy, new found obsession with Bikram yoga class turned a stress free “quick” appearance at a birthday party into a bizarrely strange evening in Brooklyn… neither here nor there, but don’t forget to check your bag for a change of clothes before Bikram class, that’s all I’m saying.

Luckily, I awoke the next day to gorgeous, beautiful weather and arrived to the Tent at the Morris Jumel Mansion at around Noon.  Morris Jumel is up in Washington Heights (where if you were on a scavenger hunt and needed catering sternos, don’t bother going to Washington Heights- trust me).  For 2K, you can get the grounds and use of the interior of the museum.  it’s open until 4PM to the public, but should you tent (another 3K minimum) you can access the tent pretty much all day. This is what we found.

Thanks to everyone at Morris Jumel and Ultra Events- we literally could not have pulled off this wedding without them!  The bride and groom were very happy and we slept like little ninos that night!  Which was great because the next day we had the Always a Bridesmaid Appreciation BBQ.  This is how you know that you are a pro at entertaining: Shop for, cook and serve for a BBQ in less than 2 hours (and we served homemade salsa and my signature mojito!).  Unfortunately, Sarah and Salome and a couple of the other girls couldn’t make it, but here are the rest of us (and Dante).P1010292

Thanks to Dante, Kimmy, Kristy and Jean for spending a lovely afternoon with us and thanks to Mayra’s boyfriend for running the grill because it occurred to us that we didn’t actually know how about a day before this event was going to happen.
