September 10th, 2009 — cakes, Cool Wedding Stuff, Decor & Details
If I haven’t mentioned this before, I have a fear of carbohydrates that is simply irrational. And so, I admire wedding cakes from afar, with a lustful eye, simply admiring their beauty rather than tasting their sweet, sweet goodness (that said, I have an insane recall memory and even after one bite, I can tell you EXACTLY what a certain bakers filling, or fondant or red velvet cake tasted like.). In any case, the point is, I admire a beautiful wedding cake and have always wished that everyone, no matter the budget or locale, could have a stunning cake! Well, NOW thanks to Amy at Sugar Flower Shop, you can!
Amy has already been baking up amazingly tasty cakes and has been featured on The Style Network as well as in numerous publications such as Martha Stewart Weddings and more. However she is now making and selling her GORGEOUS sugar flowers to brides around the country who want to dress up a simple cake!
Imagine you are getting a simple buttercream cake from your caterer, but you always dreamt of a cascade of gorgeous sugar blooms or one dramatic oversize flower on your cake, or whatever you might have imagined! Well, now you can order EXACTLY the bloom (or fruit, Amy assured me that it’s more than just flowers) and have your caterer or venue top your cake for you! Isn’t that fabulous! Flowers range from $10-30 depending on size and complexity. For more details on how it works, visit Amy’s site here. And here are some of her stunning sugar flowers including her favorite, the poppy! I’m partial to the anemone! These are amazing.

To the FABULOUS bloggers at “Always a Blogsmaid”:
Thank you so much for the kind words about my cakes and sugar flowers. It really means a lot that even though you don’t really like cake, you can appreciate the work that goes into it!
I should tell you that I don’t have a taste for overly sweet either – my recipes tend to be very balanced and I try as best as possible to achieve a smooth cake without using cloyingly sweet fondant. (While it gives a beautiful finish to a cake, most guests just pick it off and don’t eat it – such a waste, in my opinion!) I wonder what other brides think – for or against fondant? Would love to hear some opinions!
Sweet regards,
Amy
Those are simply amazing! If you had just taken the photos of the flowers I NEVER would have guessed it was sugar. What talent! And taht cake is just stunning :)
Oh ya…carbs are our friends!!!

Having seen Amy’s work in person, the flowers are truly amazing. This is a great alternative if the flowers or fruit you want are not in season.
Amy
your flowers are beautiful, They do look better in person.
You are very creative
Absolutely stunning and incredibly creative!
Amy, your flowers uniquely enhance the cake. I am in awe…
Side note – not a big fan of fondant either.
Back in the day when I ate sugar I loved fondant!
Keep up the beautiful work, your flowers are spectacular. I don’t imagine I will ever need another wedding cake but I would love you to design a cake for my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah.
Amy made flowers for my neice’s shower cupcakes and they looked absolutely magical. The photos are lovely, but the real thing is unbelievable.
Delicious! I’m an event planner in New York and have seen many weddings. Whether someone is an event professional or not, you can tell low quality from high quality. This caliber of craftsmanship is without a doubt the highest the business can offer. At the end of the day, you just want people to walk away from your event saying “wow”. So I can’t wait to see how you inspire us!
Those are fantastic flowers. You cant tell the difference. Great work Amy.
Fondant is such a disapointment! It looks so good but then tastes so bad! Sugar Flowers are the way to go! They look incredible!
Sugar Flower Shop is amazing! Not just flowers / fruit tops a cake! My best friend loves shells…you know sea shells. Amy made a beautiful arrangement of shells for my friend and it was a great hit!
Fondant looks pretty but I don’t understand why it seems to not taste as good as it looks! I pick it off!
Amy’s sugar flowers are so detailed! It’s incredible what she can do with gumpaste! As far as fondant the taste of most American brands IS terrible. There are a few high-end European fondants that don’t have the chemical taste to them at all….really they don’t taste like anything. I would choose one of those because I LOVE the look of fondant!
I personally don’t even like icing on a cake…but you have to have it. You eat with your eyes first! Amy’s flowers are too beautiful to even think about eating. She truly has a talent. We ordered some for a friend of mine’s bridal shower and everyone was in awe.
Amy,
Your flowers are beautiful and natural looking. NOT just for brides either…..thank goodness.
Continued success!
Karen
PS: No to Fondant
What a great looking cake! i always happily eat the fondant, then regret it later! I do love the way fondant looks though, like a perfectly formed box or a special gift.
Amy I will be calling you when I get married!
I’ve seen Amy’s flowers in person and even watched her create sugar flowers at Macy’s and they are amazingly beautiful. If I was a bride, I’d carry a bouquet of Amy’s custom-made sugar flowers as my bridal bouquet!
I can’t believe that these are sugar flowers!!! Wow! Such talent.
