One Invitation, Three Ways

Last year at NSS I stopped dead in my tracks when I passed the Dauphine booth and saw this invitation!

As much as a mouth can water for stationery, mine DID and immediately I knew we just HAD to carry the Dauphine line for our clients. We carry a few lines of really stunning stationery, so it was to my pleasure and surprise when no sooner did the Dauphine album come in than our client Carolyn (see yesterday’s post) chose the Larkspur invitation for her New Year’s Eve wedding. Something about the patterns and the foil printing seemed to speak to the turn of the century iron details of her venue. Of course, we wanted to adjust the colors, so we swapped out the aqua in the invitation and switched the olive green details to grey. The result is below.

Then, a few months later or client Kerry was in browsing for invites. She was ALSO drawn to the Larkspur, but thought the design would be more interesting if it “looked more like a gate” . Instead of having it in a 2 color letterpress with foil printing, we opted to go with ONE COLOR- grey- and the gold foil. The result- Simple, Stunning sophistication. Truly remarkable. We selected a gold liner to set off the gold foil details. Amazing.

I thought I would share this with you in the hopes that as you shop for wedding invitation, try your best to use your imagination and look at each design as ELEMENTS of a whole. If you love a pattern, but not a font, remember you can change it. If you love an invitation, but not the colors, try and imagine your palette on the invite. Stationery today has never been more customizable, but don’t be afraid of taking some chances with it!
