I think I’ve mentioned (because I find myself thinking about it constantly) that we are working on a wedding on Ellis Island. Actually, the ceremony (involving permitting for a horse) is at a different location, but the reception is on Ellis Island. Because the wedding is logistically complicated-the location, a museum, presents many challenges- we thought it would be a good idea to have an “all vendor walk through” with the vendors who hadn’t worked the space before. And so, on a bright and sunny day a couple of weeks ago, DJ Kucha, Jessy from Fleurs, Robert Wagner, Mayra, Salome and I all headed down to Battery Park for a little excursion. First stop was the ceremony site and then, like a school field trip, I led our “class” to the Castle to pick up our ferry tickets. There was waving and “stick together” utterings as we made our way through the THRONGS of tourists and the intense security line. Jessy was trying to knife somebody and had her blade confiscated! KIDDING, she actually just showed up with her floral knife and then immediately handed it over to the guards while saying “I’m a florist, you can just keep the knife! I only have it because I’m a florist, really. I don’t carry knives normally.”
Anyhoo, we had a lovely ferry ride and a FASCINATING walk through with the team from Evelyn Hill where we got to see the” basement” of Ellis Island and learned several fun facts including: 1) With special permission you can drive onto Ellis Island via New Jersey 2) If you do so, you better have paper work proving you are authorized to work in the US 3) that vehicle will be given the once over by bomb sniffing dogs (it IS a national landmark, afterall) and 4) those bomb sniffing dogs have a little bit of arthritis in their rear hips. Just a fun fact, guys, just a fun fact.
Anyway, it was a great, and really USEFUL trip. There are some really amazing wedding professionals out there, ladies! It’s such a pleasure to get to work with such great vendors who care so much about their brides. Robert Wagner sent over some LOVELY photos of our day and the spectacular venue, that I’m sharing below! (also note the ever present blackberries in these pics!)
