A Birthday Dinner in Red and Grey

In the frenzy that has been 2012, I decided to use my birthday as a great excuse to see some of my friends (I’m lucky they remembered me!) and Mayra and her husband were kind enough to host a dinner for me in their lovely apartment.  Since, for my 30th, I had what amounted to a day into night dance party, I thought that a more sophisticated option for my 35th birthday would be an elegant meal of my favorite cuisine: Italian!   I asked my old friend Arden, a chef at one of New York’s most chic hotels, if he’d be interested in cooking for us and he created e a menu, SOO yummy and amazing, it exceeded my wildest dreams.  Of course, it being an AaB Party, it didn’t take long for it to evolve (or devolve?) into something a little more raucus than what I had planned, BUT a good time (and amazing food) was certainly had by all.   I’ll spare you the photos of all the insanity, but I will share for you the pretty, modern table top (rentals by Classic) inspired by my post from a few weeks ago!  We do so much romance, it was fun to play with a mid-century mod kind of look!  (Thanks to Amber Gress for stopping by to shoot some of the soireee).

I made the runner from a fabric from Mood, and M and I thought it would be fun to paint glass to keep all the floral red.

We found these great heart garlands in the flower market and decided they would make the perfect place cards. My friend Sharon helped write the names since my handwriting is soo very bad.

Chef Arden at work… Mayra’s kitchen hadn’t seen that much action since they moved in :-)

One of my friends joked that they’d never been to such a fun 35th Birthday, but remember, anything is a good reason to have a party if you feel like celebrating!
