Les Miserables Inspired

I have a confession to make that isn’t going to be popular: I didn’t like Les Mis, the movie. Perhaps it’s because as a teenager, I had seen it on Broadway no fewer than 10 times… possibly 12 and I didn’t literally need to SEE the sewage Jean Valjean treks through in the final act, or perhaps I prefer my operas with opera level singing skills.. REGARDLESS, minus the poop filled sewer, it WAS a very pretty movie. So pretty in fact, I got to thinking what great inspiration it can offer. While no one might overtly think a movie with the title “The Wretched” could be much of a wedding inspiration, there is something a bit romantic about about young revolutionaries and decrepit convents on the outskirts of Paris. Whatever I may have thought of the movie (and, forgive me Shannon for not waiting for you to see it), I can’t help myself but find the tale of Mauritius and cloistered Cosette endearing! So, here’s what I would do for a Les Mis inspired wedding. For the venue, I’d do the closest thing I could find to a decaying, but romantic convent and turn to the stunning Alder Manor (this shot via Just About Married shot by Cappy Hotchkiss)

Obviously, I would have romantic candles EVERYWHERE…. (I apologize b/c I should have pinned this image b/c now I can’t figure out where I got it from. If I sourced it from you, let me know and I’ll add the credit!)

In a nod to the Parisian Proletariat, how about everday items for decor? For your table, adore these vintage canister sets as containers and these rustic French runners. I adore these old house numbers for table numbers. All via VintageWeave.com

Obviously, for the Bride, something Angelic, like this stunning Monique Lhuillier via Chic Vintage Brides:

Why let Mauritius be the only one in a cravat? On Etsy (isn’t EVERYTHING on Etsy?)

Of course, let’s not forget the Mother of the Bride! Sure, Fantine may have walked the streets and sold her hair and teeth for her daughter’s sake- but she sure was striking in that Red Dress! (via Indie Wire)

How about a Red Vera Wang for mom? This one is a steal on Ebay! Never worn.

So, who is to say that out of something miserable, you can’t get something gorg!
