I have been slowly but surely redecorating my Brooklyn apartment, a.k.a. “The Dollhouse” ( because it is petite, everything is Xochitl size – slightly miniature- AND except for heating up some fabric dye and chilling some rose, as far as I know the kitchen appliances are toys.) And, as anyone involved in redecorating knows, you suddenly become a sponge for pretty much ANY and EVERY decorating inspiration that is available… which right at this moment includes the entire universe of Pinterest as well as the regular design mags, amazing blogs like Design Sponge, CocoCozy and (I really enjoy) Roost. Anyhoosey, what I’ve discovered is that Home Decor is inspiring wedding tabletop NOW more than ever… in BOTH formal AND informal ways.
Personally, while I love a bit of glitz, designing dining rooms for weddings that feel like dining rooms for living has been a goal of ours for some time now. YES, adding in the wonderous is always a plus, but when a guest sits down at a table to enjoy an amazing meal as the prep for a great, fun evening of dancing, I just LOVE for them to feel as comfortable as they would in the bride and groom’s home (Or, in cases where the bride and groom are awkward, as comfortable as they would in my home… KIDDING! We don’t have any awkward clients :-) SO, it’s no surprise that the look and feel of the comforts of a well appointed and stylish home are end goals for many couples.
For events, NOTHING makes a statement quite the way your chair does… As such, we are moving BEYOND seeing chivari chairs (those “bamboo”-y) looking chairs that you’ve been seeing for ages, silky satin chair backs AND your generic white lounge furniture AND moving towards elements that you might see in a Restoration Hardware catalogue or on the pages of Elle Decor magazine.. Even event staples, like the Louis Ghost chair are being reimagined in a more “homey” way. Of course, with events, it isn’t as simple as buying 4 chairs for your dream dining room… you are doing things in MULTIPLES and that means renting… But luckily the rental industry is KEEPING UP with the trends. Below, a few of my FAVORITE “hot” items that you can simultaneously think of at home OR at your wedding.
The LYLE chair from Crate and Barrel:
A similar chair from Yeah! Rentals out in LA (Btw, these L.A. designers dude… I’m SO DARN JEALOUS I can barely see straight… First of all they get amazing weather so they can always do stuff outside without tents, secondly, there is just SO much more real estate that they HAVE RENTAL COMPANIES that actually carry cool stuff like this! Love it!!!)
I LOVE a Bentwood Bistro Chair! I always have. Be it in a BISTRO, in a home, or at an event. Lately, I noticed that the COLORED bistro chair is making the rounds in the home design circuit. I can only hope that we have such luck in the event world. Here is a fabulous YELLOW version via Fresh Quince.
I ADORE Eames dining chairs, especially when juxtaposed against a backdrop that ISN’T as modern… How fabulous is this image from Australian Vogue with the white table and the moulding? Maybe only slightly trumped by the awesome blue ones against that vintage damask wallpaper and handpainted cabinets! (both via Paperblog. )
And here are some awesome Eames chairs set up for a party! (Via Yeah!)
