Mayra’s Bootcamp

A few months ago, one of my clients asked me what fitness options I recommended, which made me chuckle. Xochitl likes to tease me about the lack of fitness in my life. I hate the gym! I would say that I despise the gym, but I am in a good mood today and feel like that is too strong a word, so I’ll stick to hate. Anywho, after we got our headshots back last month, I knew I should look into some fitness options to recommend, but also to try to get back to one chin (please refer to picture below). I am attaching my headshot from when we started the business so that you can see what a difference 6 years make AND so you can see how uncomfortable I look in photos! The wonderful photographer Karen Mordechai can’t be blamed for the fact that I love pasta and desserts!

So, after looking into many options I decided on Stacy’s Bootcamp. I liked it because it was 3 weeks long, which I can TOTALLY get through and because it was near my house (but they actually have a few different locations). Also, I liked the fact that the classes were small. So, $275 dollars later and a delay to my start day (they were waiting to fill the class) I was finally told that my start day would be June 7th. Ladies, I hardly slept a wink last night! I ran to Modell’s to buy exercise gloves (which they asked us to bring along with a gallon of water) late last night… and then started to panic about a workout that required gloves.

So, I showed up to Prospect Park today at 6am, which was hard to do since I am totally not a morning person. I was the first one there and was scared from the moment I sat next to our instructor, Mauricio. He explained that the gallon of water I had brought would not be used to re-hydrate, but as a weight. Awesome. A few minutes later a woman showed up on a bike, which made me think she was in great shape. I always think that people who ride bikes are in great shape. A man who seemed to be in his early 40’s and a couple rounded out our class. For the next hour we were all treated to a work-out that is bound to leave me sore until my next class on Thursday. I am in bad shape, but Mauricio did a good job of being demanding without giving me feel bad about myself. We ran with our gallons, we did lunges while holding our gallons, and we did what felt a zillion sit-ups and push-ups in between. I left the class feeling completely exhausted, but also good about the fact that I had made it through (which was up in the air there for a while). I will keep you all posted on my progress! So far, so good….
